TASHIGI

Tashigi is a Sergeant Major of the Marine Armada. At first sight, she looks like a nerdy, clumsy girl who is always tripping and dropping things, but she's also a great swordswoman - to be exact, swords are her passion, and above all, she masters the katana fighting style. She works with Captain Smoker in Loguetown Island, trying to capture pirates, bandits and criminals in their area. In the anime series, she first appears in episode 48, when the Straw Hat Crew reach Loguetown. Zoro is extremely shocked when he meets Tashigi, because she looks like his childhood friend Kuina, who died many years ago.

As a Marine, Tashigi believes in justice and doing always the right thing. As a swordswoman, she has a strong sense of honor and pride. She hates being a woman, because she thinks it makes her less strong than a man, and her enemies don't take her seriously in a fight because of her gender. But she tries to be stronger and earn a place among the best swordsmen in the world. Her dream is to find and confiscate the Best Swords in the World that are in evil hands (owned by pirates and wrongdoers). She is also rather innocent and naive (to her, simply, pirates are evil and marines are justice), usually polite and kind, but brave and determined when it's time to do her job.
